In Indian culture, turmeric is valued not just as a culinary spice but as part of beauty rituals. The traditional Haldi ceremony before a wedding, where family members apply a turmeric paste to the bride and groom, is one of the best-known examples.

Everyday ubtan, a paste of turmeric, gram flour and milk or yogurt, has been used in homes for generations as a gentle cleansing face pack.

Before You Begin

• Patch-test first: Apply a small amount to the inside of your arm and wait 24 hours before using a pack on your face.
• Skip broken or irritated skin: Do not apply face packs to cuts, active rashes or very sensitive skin.
• Keep it out of your eyes and rinse with lukewarm water.

3 Simple Turmeric Face Packs

1. Honey and Turmeric Pack

A soft, simple pack that leaves skin feeling smooth.

Recipe: Mix a pinch (about 1/8 tsp) of Meghana Organics Turmeric with 1 tbsp raw honey. Apply to a clean face for 10 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

2. The Classic Ubtan

A gentle exfoliating pack made with kitchen staples.

Recipe: Mix 1/4 tsp turmeric, 2 tbsp plain yogurt, and 1 tsp gram flour (besan). Apply a thin layer until semi-dry (about 10 minutes), then wet your fingers and rub off gently in circular motions.

3. Milk and Turmeric Pack for Dry Skin

A creamy pack for days when your skin feels tight.

Recipe: Mix a pinch of turmeric with 1 tbsp full-fat milk or fresh cream and a few drops of sweet almond oil. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse.

A Note About Staining

Always use pure turmeric. Some low-grade powders contain non-permitted synthetic yellow dyes (like Metanil Yellow) to make them look brighter, and these can stain and irritate skin. Pure turmeric may leave a faint golden tint that washes off with a gentle cleanser.
